<h1>UNITE Aware Platform</h1> <h2>Context:</h2><ul><li>India with the United Nations (UN) has launched a technology platform to secure the safety and security of peacekeepers who are working across the world.</li><li>This platform appear as India assumed the presidency of the UNSC in August month.</li></ul> <h2>UNITE Aware:</h2><ul><li>It is a mobile tech platform to provide terrain-related information to the UN peacekeepers to ensure their safety.</li><li>India has contributed USD 1.64 million to this platform.</li><li>This initiative envisaged that an entire peacekeeping operation can be visualized, monitored, and coordinated on a real-time basis.</li><li>This platform will be initially deployed in 4 UN peacekeeping missions:</li></ul><ol><li class="ql-indent-3">MINUSMA (Mali)</li><li class="ql-indent-3">UNMISS (South Sudan)</li><li class="ql-indent-3">UNFICYP (Cyprus)</li><li class="ql-indent-3">AMISOM (Somalia)</li></ol> <h2>UN Peacekeeping:</h2><ul><li>The UN peacekeeping operations are peacebuilding actions carried out by the UN to bring stability in war broken nations.</li><li>Every peacekeeping mission is approved by Security Council.</li></ul> <ul><li>Composition:</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Peacekeeping forces are contributed by members states on a voluntary basis.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">UN peacekeepers (also known as Blue Helmets) include soldiers, police officers, and civilian personnel.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Financial contribution is the collective responsibility of UN Member States</li><li class="ql-indent-1">According to Article 17 of the UN Charter, every member state is legally obligated to pay their respective share.</li></ul> <ul><li>Contribution of India:</li><li class="ql-indent-1">India is a major contributing nation to UN peacekeeping activities.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">More than 200,000 Indians served in 49 out of 71 missions around the world.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">In 2007, India became the first country to deploy an all-women contingent to UN peacekeeping missions.</li></ul>
