<h1>Smog Tower&nbsp;</h1> <img src="https://sunyaias-resources.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com/content/6eec7376-3ecd-11ec-896c-09c39727a300.png"><h2> </h2><h2>Context:</h2> <ul><li>Recently, the Chief Minister of Delhi inaugurated the&nbsp;country's first 'smog tower’ in Connaught Place.</li></ul> <h2>Background:</h2> <ul><li>In 2019, Supreme Court had directed authorities to take measures, including asking the Delhi government and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to submit a comprehensive plan on setting up “smog towers” in the capital.</li></ul> <ul><li>Later, in January 2020, the Court directed that two towers should be installed in the capital by April on a pilot project basis but this timeline was never met.</li></ul> <h2>Smog Tower:</h2> <ul><li>Smog towers are structures&nbsp;designed to work as large-scale air purifiers.</li></ul> <ul><li>This structure is fitted with multiple layers of filters which trap fine dust particles suspended in the air as it passes through them&nbsp;</li></ul> <ul><li>The first such tower was erected in 2015, in Rotterdam, Netherlands&nbsp;&nbsp;</li></ul> <ul><li>China&nbsp;has the&nbsp;world’s largest smog tower.</li></ul>
